Attendees will enjoy a Vocal Concert by G Ravikiran and will learn more about the Southern Indian musical tradition. Vocalist G Ravikiran, violinist B Anantha Krishnan, and mridangam player Vijay Ganesh will share their love of Carnatic music.
G Ravikiran is a Carnatic musician currently living in Chennai, India. His love and dedication for the art-form has spanned decades and started with his own mother’s musical interests. Having gone to college for software engineering, G Ravikiran decided to choose music as his profession soon after. He has participated in and won various reputable competitions such as the National All-India-Radio music contest and the Bangalore Gayana Samaj Best Concert and has been under the instruction of teachers such as Sangeetha Kalanidhi Sri RK Srikantan and Vidwan Sri TM Krishna. His accomplishments include an admirable concert career in Carnatic music, an exclusive album dedicated to the compositions of poet and composer Muthuswami Dikshita (dedicated to Hindu gods and temples), a short radio career, and a current passion for teaching through lecture demonstrations internationally. G Ravikiran has further shown his love for Carnatic music by starting a trust named Guruguhaamrta in which he funds Carnatic music related events and workshops.
B Anantha Krishnan is a violinist whose excellence stems from a reputable family history in Carnatic music and a lifetime of performing. His accomplishments include performing with well-known senior artists in Carnatic music, performing at Sabha (public assembly) all over India, and performing in concert tours internationally. Some awards he has been given include the Villisai Virpanar Award, the Youth Excellence Award, the Best Concert Award, and Best Sub-Senior Violinist Award.
Vijay Ganesh is an established mridangist who has been playing since a very young age. He is a student of the late Kumbakonam M. Rajappa lyer and has played throughout India and the United States and accompanied many well-known Carnatic musicians. His accolades include the following: Best Mridangist award, Awardees of Government of India Cultural Scholarship, and “youth excellence” from the Sri Maharajapuram Vishwanatha lyer trust.
