Experience art, dance, music and poetry embodied metaphorically as ‘light’ and symbolized as humanity, nature, and things bigger than all of us. Be inspired to imagine a more just world – one where there is less hate & more empathy, kindness and caring.
ON STAGE shares new choreography and music from Ricarrdo Hunter-Valentine & Orlando Hunter-Valentine, Brother(hood) Dance!; Alicia Hann (Hixon Dance Company) & composer, Jacob Reed; Russell Lepley (Flux & Flow); independent choreographer and poet, Brianna Rhodes & flutist, Jason Moncrief; Jaime Kotrba & Seth Wilson (Columbus Dance Theatre), Chloe Napoletano (Perennial Movement Group). Fiber artist, Celeste Malvar-Stewart, visual artist, Lance Johnson, and photographer Larry Hamill, collaborate with these choreographers on costume design & live painting as dancers perform solos, duets and small ensemble works. Together their artistry will summon us into community, spark conversation and provoke us to do better together without guile and polarization.
ON STAGE enriches the Chasing the Light: Arts Speak art exhibition* experience found throughout the MAC. 25 Community-minded visual artists and 1 poet laureate explore the concept of light from literal, metaphorical, analytical, expressive, spiritual, social justice, and aesthetic dimensions. Visual artists from FL, MN, NY, NC & OH will share assemblages, mixed media, paintings, pastels, photographs, sculptures & textiles.
