Hedieh Sharifzadeh is a fine artist based in Columbus, Ohio, whose work is deeply inspired by the complexities of Iranian society. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Painting from Tehran's University of Science and Culture and her MFA from Columbus College of Art & Design, where she focused on exploring the intricate relationships between individuals and political structures. Hedieh’s cross-cultural experiences inform her vibrant and thought-provoking works, which delve into themes of power, oppression, violence, control, social identity, and societal transformation. Her art confronts the oppressive ideologies of the Islamic Republic, serving as a catalyst for reflection and dialogue about Iranian society and women’s rights.
In 2023, Hedieh received the Outstanding Student Award from the Contemporary Sculpture Award, presented by the International Sculpture Center, further solidifying her reputation as a boundary-pushing artist. Her deliberate use of manipulated forms, colors, and contrasts brings attention to the struggles and resilience within Iranian society, while her minimalist approach distills these narratives into their most fundamental elements.
Through her art, Hedieh invites viewers to engage with the complexities of power, transition, and identity, fostering meaningful conversations about justice and societal change.
